Veterans Day Program

On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Meadville R-IV held their annual Veterans Day Assembly.  The assembly began with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the National Anthem performed by the Meadville Band.  Next, the Meadville Band played an arrangement of John Phillip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever”.
Then, the College Government class gave short speeches on the history of Veterans Day, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington Cemetery, the meaning of each fold while folding the American flag, and “Power of Eleven Cents.”  Following the speeches, Mr. Edwin Allender (US Navy Retired 1950-1874) was introduced as the guest speaker.  He gave insight on what it was like to be stationed aboard a naval carrier and some of the daily duties he had when he was in the service.  Following the speaker, a short slide show of veterans from the area was shown. The assembly concluded with the Meadville Chorus singing “It’s America” by Rodney Atkins and the playing of “Taps”.
